Earlier this week, British turntable and Hi-Fi manufacturer, Rega introduced the Nd5 moving magnet cartridge.
This is the second model in the company’s innovative new Nd range of handmade moving magnet cartridges.
Named after the rare earth element Nd (Neodymium), the all new Nd5 cartridge is the first moving magnet to utilise a Neodymium N55 magnet.
According to Rega, this is the world’s most powerful commercially available magnet, which they claim is a crucial component that makes this design possible by providing more power than standard bar magnet designs.
Rega developed the all-new construction over ten years aiming to deliver ‘next level’ performance from moving magnet technology.
“Each Nd5 is meticulously handmade by our highly skilled technicians,” comments Simon Webster, Rega Sales & Marketing Coordinator. “The design uses a brand-new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve highly accurate channel balance. The Nd5 also has an optimised pole gap for superior linearity and crosstalk characteristics.”
This new cartridge is created with miniaturised parallel coils which are wound in-house, utilising 38-micron wire with just 1275 turns. This is said to produce a low inductance, low impedance generator giving vastly improved high frequency response and exceptional soundstage.
