I tried using RCA/XLS cables between my phono preamp and SSL2+, but only got faint sound with hiss out of channel 1 and no sound out of channel 2. This was with the gain controls even at maximum. It looks like the inputs using XLS are for mic level and it was suggested that I use instead RCA/TRS or TS cables for line level. So, I think this would indicate that the TS inputs would be dedicated for line level, so I have to go that route and can’t make my original cables work somehow?

Hey Kenny. This is correct. If I led you a stray in the tutorial on this I apologise. Sadly the SSL 2+ doesn’t have a switchable input, so XLR is fixed at mic-level and the quarter-inch jack input at line-level. You could buy an adaptor from XLR to jack, but it would be better to just have the right cable.

    Hey Marc,

That’s really good news. I thought my SSL2+ may have been defective.

    Thanks,
    Kenny
