Hey @kingsleyfox – Sounds like it’s working well for you. Yes, there is some debate over alcohol, but less so when you’re using such a small amount. Shellac records are another issue, of course. Never use any alcohol on those if you have any.
Interesting that you’re finding the Knosti better than the Okki Nokki. There are some close connections with Discwasher in terms of the people who…Read More

I thought that I would post this info, even though it is mostly a re-hash of my reply to the posts on the stylus residue questions.
For cleaning second hand records that I acquire I have settled on a homemade solution of 5% Iso-Propyl Alcohol, 95% Demineralised water with a few drops of Ilfotol (a wetting agent made by Ilford primarily for use during film development) which I use in a…Read More

Hi Paul. Thanks for reading/watching. Glad it helps. Sorry to hear that. I’m wondering if this is to do with the stylus/cartridge or even how it’s setup rather than the signal itself? Hard for me to tell, of […]

Spartan 5 pre-amp is excellent, great value and performance. Initially I was using the built in pre-amp on my Rotel A10 integrated amplifier which sounded decent specifically designed for analog playback but doesn’t have a mono switch. I used the rca y cable split trick for a while for mono LPs but was getting feedback if turned up past 1/3 volume and then saw your review of the spartan…Read More

hi & especially to KingsleyFox, thanks; I graduated to the same cleaning mixture as you but with a different brand of wetting agent & had continuing residue issues. However I never used a clean bath of only distilled/de-mineralised water as a final rinse, so my guess is that this helps wash out any leftover debris. I no longer have a Knosti or similar & am trying to find the most cost…Read More

Hi,
Thanks for your detailed post. I have always added a few drops of dishwasher rinse aid with the iso-propyl and water so maybe the Ilfotol is better, I will certainly try it and also add it to the water when rinsing. -

Hi,
I experienced the build up of debris on my stylus when I first used my Knosti. However, through experimentation I found that the stylus debris problem was associated with the supplied Knosti cleaning solution. I have settled on a homemade solution of 5% Iso-Propyl Alcohol, 95% Demineralised water with a few drops of Ilfotol (a wetting agent made by Ilford primarily for use during film…Read More -

Marc Henshall replied to the topic SSL 2+ inputs for a phono preamp (Cable?) in the forum Gear Chat 10 months, 3 weeks ago
Hey Kenny. This is correct. If I led you a stray in the tutorial on this I apologise. Sadly the SSL 2+ doesn’t have a switchable input, so XLR is fixed at mic-level and the quarter-inch jack input at line-level. You could buy an adaptor from XLR to jack, but it would be better to just have the right cable.

Hi there – so are you saying that you rinse in clean/distilled water after using the Knosti diluted fluid to clean? Sounds like a good idea but also sounds like you still suffer from residue despite the rinsing. I’ve now disposed of my Knosti, tried the Project with similar poor results (considered Spin Clean but not tried it) and am now left with searching around for something else…Read More

I am a bit of a vinyl addict and currently have 17 turntables (15 of which are fully operational). This means that I have a large number of cartridges (more than one per deck!).
I use the Audio Technic ATVM95 range of MM cartridges extensively, mainly due to the general quality and the flexibility of having a range of five interchangeable styli. This allows me to use the bonded elliptical…Read More -

Hi Shakey, I use the Knosti manual cleaner as well and experienced the same issue with gunk on my stylus. I also have tried weaker mixtures and never allow the record to dry fully before rinsing them. I would be glad of any solutions. Cheers
