Rega Introduces New Nd7 Moving Magnet Cartridge

Following the recent launches of the Nd3 and Nd5, Rega introduce the range topping Nd7 as the new flagship and final model of this new range of handmade moving magnet cartridges.

First previewed at the Bristol HiFi show in February, the Nd7 will also be offered factory fitted to the Planar 6 and Planar 8 turntables at a discounted rate compared to those purchased separately.

The Nd7 aluminium cantilever is fitted with a precision ‘Fine Line nude diamond’ stylus. According to Rega, this complex profile provides unrivaled tracking accuracy and extracts the maximum level of detail from the vinyl surface.

The ‘Fine Line’ profile is usually reserved for Rega’s high-end Apheta3 and Aphelion 2 moving coil designs.

Like the Nd3 and Nd5 models, the Nd7 cartridge utilises a Neodymium N55 magnet. This is reportedly the world’s most powerful commercially available magnet and is a crucial component that makes this unique design possible by providing more power than standard bar magnet designs.

“This all-new construction was developed over 10 years and promises to deliver ‘next level’ performance from moving magnet technology,” states Simon Webster, Rega Sales & Marketing Coordinator. “Each Nd7 is meticulously handmade by our highly skilled technicians. The design uses a brand-new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve accurate channel balance.”

Rega has designed the Nd7 with an optimised pole gap for what they claim delivers superior linearity and crosstalk characteristics. This new cartridge is created with miniaturised parallel coils, which are wound in-house, utilising 38-micron wire with just 1275 turns. Such a hand-made focus on quality is designed to produce a low inductance, low impedance generator, which the company stresses gives vastly improved high-frequency response and a notably wider sound stage.

KEY FEATURES:

  • Fine line nude diamond profile
  • Aluminium cantilever
  • Neodymium magnet
  • Unique generator
  • Rega 3-point mounting system
  • Highly rigid lightweight PPS body
  • Handmade stereo cartridge
  • 100% recyclable packaging
  • Available factory fitted on the Planar 6 and Planar 8 turntables
  • Lifetime warranty against manufacture defects

As with all handmade Rega cartridges, the stylus is not interchangeable, as the tolerances required for such a design are said to compromise performance too much. Instead, the company offers a rebuild service that is equivalent to most other manufacturers’ replacement stylus charges.

When the stylus is worn or damaged, you can return the worn cartridge to a Rega dealer for a replacement rebuild cartridge.

Nd7 Pricing:

Nd7 £450 (UK SSP)

Planar 6 Nd7 Factory Fitted £1575.00 (UK SSP)

Planar 8 Nd7 Factory Fitted £2230.00 (UK SSP)
